Lutheran Women's Missionary Society (LWML)
The LWML was founded over 60 years ago and is an official auxiliary of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. All women members of Galilee are automatically members of the LWML. Meetings are held the 3rd Sunday of each month in the Galilee Fellowship Hall. We gather for fellowship at right after the 10:45 AM service (about 12 noon) and the meeting lasts 1 hour.
The motto of the Galilee LWML is “Serve the Lord with Gladness” Psalm 100:2
Each year Chesapeake District LWML (to which some of our Galilee mites contribute) also chooses missions to support. The Mite Goal for these projects is $125,000. For 2016 to 2018, the following missions have been slated for LWML support:
NOTE: In addition, 25% of Mites collected go to fund the national LWML Grants
In many cases, our support includes Thrivent Financial matching funds to make our contribution even more beneficial.
All of this we are able to do because of the support of our Galilee members and neighbors who attend our annual Peach Festival, Spring Thing Flea Market and the annual Harvest Bazaar.
We also “Serve the Lord with Gladness” through our mite boxes based on the biblical account of the widow’s mite (Luke 21:1-4). Mite Box contributions fund district and national mission grants. Lutheran women all over the country save our coins and send them in to fund many missions. Last year $3,000 in mites money was sent to Galilee Lutheran Pre-school to assist in tuition.
We invite you to become an active member with us in ministry to the people of our community and the world.
We laugh, we learn, we work. Join us. Try it! You’ll like it!
